DragonTales is located in Maryville, TN, in Blount County. We are a kindergarten-readiness learning center with a structured classroom environment, not a daycare. DragonTales has private
classes for 2, 3, 4, & 5 year olds. Students should be 2 by November 1, with some exceptions. Potty training is NOT REQUIRED for any of the children, as we work with each family to create a plan that works for your child. Classes are taught by a Tennessee state certified elementary teacher with a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education. This ensures your child is receiving a progressive education that will build & change to meet your child's needs. Class sizes at DragonTales are limited to only 4 students per class. With this small number, students receive plenty of individual instruction that cannot be achieved in a larger class of 10, 15, or 20. They are able to receive the attention that every teacher WISHES she could give to her students but are unable to provide due to class size. Each child is able to work on his or her own academic tasks, mastering material at their own pace. In this environment, students are taught together, but learn individually. Your child will not be expected to "stay with the class" or have to endure remedial lessons for material that they have already mastered. Each child works towards individual goals and masters them when developmentally ready while still developing important socialization skills by interacting with peers.
In such a small group, students are less likely to be overwhelmed or become "lost in the crowd." Each student's academic progress is documented weekly through short, individual assessments. You & the teacher will always know which learning skills your child has mastered & which ones need more development. Small class size, coupled with individualized education, leads to a greater capacity for learning.
A typical day for Preschoolers at DragonTales includes instruction through literature & stories, hands-on activities, teacher-led games (with only 4 children per class, this is very effective & fun for the kids!), work with manipulatives, music, dance, and repetition. We also have snack time, outdoors time, & play centers.
The curriculum is designed to meet the Tennessee Teaching Standards for Pre-K. The weekly themes (i.e., SHAPES, OCEANS, REPTILES, RHYMING WORDS, WEATHER, OUTER SPACE, & 30 more) incorporate the skills recommended by the state while also providing fun, preschool-age topics that engage the children. Also, The Tennessee Department of Education requires that classrooms "must have 30 square feet of usable space per child CLICK HERE (#7)." With 90 square feet per child in the classroom, each student of DragonTales receives 3x the required amount!
